Keyword research basics

Before you put out any content; post, video…etc, you have to have at least a keyword in mind to go after.

Why?

Simply  because you want free traffic from the search engines. Imagine doing something once and get an ongoing traffic from it for months even years to come. You’d like that, wouldn’t ya? So, pay attention.

Let’s say you joined an MLM company called “Herbalife”, one of the biggest network marketing companies out there and you would like to get traffic from people who are looking for the search term “Herbalife”.

If you run a search on Google, it becomes pretty clear that there are over 36 million pieces of content that mention the word “Herbalife” which means you have that many competing sites to beat if you want to be on the top of the first page of Google.

And that , sorry to say, but it ain’t gonna happen. It may take you about a decade to get to that position.  It’s not worth it, so you gotta search for a term that has relatively high traffic with less competition.

Tip:

Add “Google global” to your search bar for a more accurate search results. (Works with Firefox and Chrome as well.)

Step-by-Step

Check out the site called MLMrankings.com where you will see what MLM companies has the most gains, best performance.

Find new companies that have the best gains in the past 6 months and pick one.

Type it’s name into the Google search bar.

Chances are that you get a lot less search results than in the case of “Herbalife”, which means less competition.

You can rank for this keyword a lot easier, if you know what you’re doing.

Side note:

Don’t worry about if you’re not in this particular company, the goal is to capture the traffic that this keyword generates.

You may also want to use Google keyword tool which was created for PPC keyword research but also provides cool information about organic search. (You may also want to check out Market Samurai which has a free and paid version as well.)

Now, run a search on this keyword tool for this newer MLM company called “Akea”, you will see it has 27000 monthly searches with 131 thousand search results. Now, that’s a keyword you can aim for and get on the first page of Google.

As I said earlier your pure goals is to get traffic to your site and convert that traffic into leads or/and sales.

Steps:

• Write a review about this company. (I will go into how to sprinkle your keywords in a later post but let me just say that you have to have a good amount of keyword density ( around 2% is a good start) in your content.)
• At the end of the review you may ask the visitor to join you if you’re in this company

or

• Offer a product or service that will help THEM to become a better network marketer.

What I do is to offer a lead generation system that will help THEM to generate leads on a daily basis. Which is crucial if your business is to survive.
