Happiness and Stuff | Why Happiness is Not In The Stuff…….Ever

My Happiness and Stuff  

I remember when the movie Mission Impossible came out in 2000 and I fell in love with a motorcycle that Tom Cruise rode and trashed in the movie.

I have never seen a bike like that before. It was the most bad ass, agressive looking bike on the planet Earth. And after watching the movie I told myself that I’m gonna get what I want and  I’m gonna buy one of those bikes, a Triumph Speed Triple 995i.

One year later I went to a bike show in San Francisco. Guess what I saw displayed there! The very same bike Tom Cruise beat up in MI2. I ask the Triumph guys if I could sit on it, they said yes, so I did. I felt like a movie star and by then I knew I am going to definitely buy one.

6 months later I picked up the bike and I was happy as it gets.

However a week later I realized that the “coolness” that I was expecting from purely possessing “da ride” just wouldn’t  happen. Came to me that happiness and stuff has not much to do with each other.

So I was happy with the bike for a week but it didn’t add anything to me. The bike sounded like thunder rolls, yet I didn’t get as much attention as I wanted; which of course hurt my ego big time.

In my head this bike was the real deal but people just didn’t seem to care.

In my reality this “stuff” was the greatest thing ever invented but in a 20 year old girl’s reality a “Coach bag” was the invention of all time.

Stuff may make you happy for like 2 days, but it doesn’t add the quality of your life unfortunately. Too bad that we are  all chasing stuff,  hopping it is going to get us to a happy place; but the truth is that we are going to be let down almost all the time.

Of course I’m not talking about things that are practical and make your life easier.

I’m referring things that you expect happiness from. They can’t give you what they don’t have. It just ain’t gonna happen because……………

Happiness is NOT in the stuff. 

Happiness is not in having but in doing.
